Richard Atkins Richard is an advisor to Smart421 in the use of technology to solve business issues for several sectors. Richard has worked in the IT industry for more than 20 years, initially as a Finance Director, but latterly in general management. Richard started as part of a small leadership team that built Thorn EMI's high technology division in the eighties and then led a Management Buy Out of the software division to create Data Sciences in 1991. The company was re-focussed successfully on IT Services and was bought by IBM in 1996, just prior to its flotation. Following this, Richard was responsible for the European transformation of IBM into a services led business. Before leaving IBM, Richard was the General Manager of IBM Global Services for Northern Europe. He now holds several non-executive directorships in the IT and Telecommunication sectors.
